Come to the Sandals Royal Bahamian and swim with your favorite PIGS! It’s an experience you won’t forget. The pigs are not native to the Bahamas, so some people say that the pigs were brought to the island by pirates. Or sailors. Others think they might have swum ashore from a nearby shipwreck, or were brought over in a business venture to start a local pig farm. What we do know, is they are adorable and quite a thrill to swim with.
If you spend the time to talk to the locals, you might learn that the pigs have their own personalities, and the have names. The pigs of Pig Island are wild and playful, adorable, and hungry. Visitors sometimes bring them food, though there are restrictions on who can feed them and when. You probably shouldn’t feed them, but swimming with them is fun! Did you see them on the show The Bachelor? What do you think?
The swimming pigs of Exuma live on Big Major Cay in The Bahamas. To get there, you’ll need to take a boat from the nearby island of Great Exuma or the capital city of Nassau, where Sandals Royal Bahamian is located. Your best options are to book a tour, chartering a boat, or catching a ride with someone who has one. Swimming there is not advised! Chartering a boat gives you the freedom to explore other islands and learn more about The Bahamas. You may also want to consider hiring a guide to help you navigate the experience. You’ll be able to book your swimming pigs tour through the Sandals resort, and most excursions and tours booked through Sandals Resorts include transportation. You will probably want to contact us for more info, as we can easily verify and price your excursion.
If you do choose to swim with the pigs in the Bahamas, please be respectful to the animals and the environment. We want to keep them, and the island in pristine shape. Sandals has committed to environmental programs, and we truly support their effort.
